CRICKET'S GREATEST PLAYER, EXITS THE STAGE

The fact that everyone knew it would come soon makes it no less agonizing when it arrives; Like a close family member suffering from a terminal disease you know the end is near but there are still tears when the end comes.

For India's greatest cricketer, the end had come at the conclusion of the second test of the series against the West Indies. Sachin Tendulkar had played his 200th and last Test in a career that spanned 24 glorious years, in which he has broken batting records aplenty and inspired millions of his countrymen.

But while the dejection at his impending departure can scarcely be stifled, the more appropriate feeling, though this may seem counterintuitive, should be that of appreciation. Every age throws up its champions; names like Brian Lara, Sourav Ganguly, Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Shane Warne and Dale Steyn, among others, will be with us as long as the great game lasts. Tendulkar has been one of the very best of his time and we are fortunate to have observed such a master as he engaged in the business of making runs.

The world first took notice of Tendulkar as a 16-year-old wunderkind who was destined for greatness. At an age when most of us were grappling with the trials of approaching adulthood, he was playing test cricket for his country, sharing the game's biggest stage with men who were already legends.

The runs didn't flood in right away, but before we were tempted to wonder what the fuss was about there was a hundred at Old Trafford on the 1990 English tour. Two more came on the 1991-92 tour of Australia, including an exquisite 114 in the lion's den at Perth while everything crumbled around him. There could be no denying his quality now, and Tendulkar would go on to build a statistical edifice that will be near impossible to surpass. He was relentless in his run scoring - a glutton who squeezed the maximum out of every run-gathering opportunity. His level of skill was almost otherworldly. In studied defence his blade appeared broader than any in the game. His push through mid-on, especially in his early days, was as bankable a shot as the game has known. If he were a bit discomfited by the short ball in the beginning, he grew to the point where he could beat back the likes of Brett Lee at his fastest, and spin bowlers, even of the caliber of Shane Warne, knew that their best offerings might still be dominated by the "Little Master."

In terms of both magnitude and intensity, the boy from Mumbai attracted a level of devotion unlike anything ever experienced in sport in India. But this level of hero-worship was invasive and forced Tendulkar into a kind of cocoon from which he could seldom escape. Peaceful moments in public became impossible and only darkness and disguise allowed him any semblance of normal activity in communal spaces.

I am not qualified to make this judgment, but this state of affairs might have imposed a level of discipline upon the batting master that served him well in the exercise of his craft. Even as he strove to subjugate his opposition, the tight control was always apparent.

Prior to a test match against the West Indies at Perth, Australian Kim Hughes vowed to resist the risky hook shot until, he said, "I am 150 and we were 3-330." Early in his innings, however, Michael Holding fed him a bouncer which he hooked down Malcolm Marshall's throat at deep square leg, 146 runs earlier than he promised.

In 2004, Tendulkar decided to put away the cover drive in Sydney, after falling to the stroke in Melbourne when he seemed set for a big score. Eighty-two runs in five innings was well below the standards he had set for himself, and he was determined make things right. If shunning the off side drive was what he felt was best for his game at the time then that is what he would do. The result was 613 minutes at the crease for 241 runs without a single drive through the covers. Even as Laxman enchanted the gathering with drives through the off side and all round the park, Tendulkar remained resolute, never once departing from his pledge, though the temptation to do so must have been considerable.

From getting excited in 1994 when he made his then-highest Test score of 179 to feeling cheated when he was not awarded the Man-of-the-series in the 1996 World Cup for being the highest and classiest scorer in the tournament. From remembering the painful struggle he went through as captain in 1997 - when he had to battle not only opponents but officials as well - to feeling exhilarated throughout much of 1998, as the destroyer in Tendulkar returned to quell not just Australians but sandstorms too on an unforgettable night in Sharjah. From having our hearts broken along with his when he miscued a Saqlain doosra in the Chennai Test of 1999 to having our faith in the game restored during the match-fixing scandal, when it was revealed that bookies would take bets on Indian matches only after he got out.

From remembering the 2003 World Cup as an image forever frozen of Tendulkar cutting Shoaib Akhtar over third-man for maximum to shaking our heads in disbelief in 2004 at the amazing self-control and discipline of a man who did not play a single cover drive in an innings of 241 not out.

From exulting with him at burying the ghost of 'finishing' matches for India in the CB series in 2008 to the sharing his solemn joy and humility at bringing a Test victory to the nation immediately after his city had been ravaged by scum towards the end of the year.

Through proxy-wars and floods, through terrorist attacks and droughts, through living under corrupt politicians and battling for survival at work or school - through it all, it was one man that brought us hope. One man who needed only to wield a bat to unite the most diverse country in the world. A hero who did not need a script, arc-lights and endless retakes to have the audience gasping in awe, but played out his dramas in real-time.

A credible argument could be advanced that India's heartbeat should have hung up his helmet some time ago. It is undisputed that his powers have seriously waned; his movements at the crease have not been as assured as they were in his prime; his defences have been too frequently breached; and runs that once flowed like the Ganges have slowed to a trickle.

Not that he hasn't suffered bad patches before: A poor run of form that began in 2004 never really ended until sometime in 2007. But it was followed by the most productive period in his career. This time, however, is different. The great man is now 40, and though cricket has occupied most his waking hours (and probably much of his sleeping ones as well) since he was born, retirement could not be deferred much longer. If, in the final analysis, it was delayed for him to reach the landmark of 200 tests, then no one was more deserving of such a historical achievement.

So, as the time nears for us to bid farewell to one of the game's greatest, it is normal that his departure from the middle will cause some sadness. His fabulous speech today must have surely brought tears to each and everyone who watched it. It's probably the most emotional and inspiring speech we are gonna get in a long time. Humility was the only word that came to my mind when SRT walked all alone and paid reverence to the 22 yards where he had spent 24 years of his life. A memory to etch. We all definitely feel sad that its curtains down for him but let us also rejoice in the fact that we were able to witness the artistry of Tendulkar, and that technology gave us a front row view of greatness unfolding before our eyes.

Finally I would like to say - Batman puts on a cape, Spiderman wears a costume, Superman sheds his normal clothes to reveal his true self - Sachin Tendulkar needs only to pick up a bat in hand to be a superhero.

A Movie Geek's Steps for Disaster Film - Making

I've seen enough disaster films to know the stereotypes that need to be added in a movie if it needs to fit into the"Disaster film" genre. After having seen 2012 last night, I guess I can proclaim that I have the authority to pen down some guidlines one needs to follow for making a disaster film. These guidlines are also a part of the syllabus in "Roland Emmerich's School of Disaster film- making".

1. Cardinal Rule for The Hero : The hero is the 2nd most eye-catching factor of any disaster movie (1st one being the special effects) Your hero should be an unorganized, slobby, good-looking loser who should have a failed marriage, his career graph should be going south, and it adds more authenticity if he is a garage mechanic/ limo driver/ shoe salesman/school teacher/ construction worker unable to pay mortgage . It is guys like these who play our Messiah in a disaster movie. If Tom Cruise can play a loser in War of the Worlds, so can anyone.

2. Cranky Guy / Soothsayer : He is the wierd guy who can predict that shit's gonna fall from heaven, but nobody will believe him, including our hero. Because he is wierd, has long hair, speaks cranky stuff to himself, add to that he is a conspiracy theorist who blames the government for everything that has happened, from Rosewell to the JFK assassination.

3. The Family factor :  A broken family is essential for any disaster movie, the purpose of any earthquake, tsunami, or a global warming is to bring an estranged family together. So what if the whole world was turned upside down? Atleast you got your family back and are happy together again, only that you got no home to live in. The family should consist of

a. The hero's ex-wife : A hawt yummy mummy who thinks our hero is a big- time loser and a bad father who doesn't spend enough time with his children. The secondary mission of the hero is to redeem himself in her eyes after saving the world.

b. The pesky kids : Always have a boy and a girl whom the hero can take out for camping, fishing after being hounded by his ex-wife to do so. The kids too should think that their father is an all-time loser(they obviously get the idea from their yummy mummy) The kids should be irritatingly dumb and should ask our hero crazy questions at a time when he is busy saving their asses, the questions they should ask will be discussed later.

c. The guy screwing the ex-wife: The hero's ex-wife must be living with another man who is successful, rich, a good company to the pesky kids and buys them cool stuffs. Note that heshould not be as good lookin' as the hero, because it will only pose a problem to the heroine at the end of the movie on to whom to go back to, the good lookin loser of an ex-hubby who saved the world or the guy she is currently screwing who has it all (maybe not all because an earthquake may have destroyed it all).

4. The Dog : The dog plays a crucial role in a disaster movie, go for the adorable puppies or the cute and cuddly sons of bitches. Put them in a scenario where they are in some serious shit fighting for their life, maybe they have to jump off a ledge or catch a moving a car or train or spaceship. But never ever kill em, these pups are great pussy magnets (am not talkin bout kittens or cats here). Seeing a cute pup in trouble can make any chick squeal with anxiety, they are so dumb not to realise that Hollywood doesnt kill dogs, let alone puppies, we have seen this in so many disaster films. By the end of the movie these dogs end up being a part of the hero's family, giving company to the pesky kids who find him cute enough to play with. Thus completing the picture perfect family of

a. The Loser turned Savior hero
b. The Hawt yummy mummy
c. The pesky kids
d. The dog/ pup

5. The President and his speech : There has to be a President, preferably a African- American President, Morgan Freeman did it in Deep Impact,  and also throw in a scene where he gives his famous presidential speech to America that maybe broadcasted all over the world, use sentences like :

America will fight
We will stay together/ united
We will have the will to survive...
We all nations should come together at a time where the world is at the brink of disaster
Also show a shot of a bunch of rednecks in Times Square going "wo-hoo" as they see their Mr. President on a mega big-ass screen TV, speaking about the will to survive. Paint a picture as if greatness is thrust on the US of A to save the rest of the world from a disaster.

6. The Boss and his Subordinate : In a parallel storyline put in a cold and calculating boss of a govt agency who has been entrusted the task of making plans to save humanity, he should be a cold and calculating Whiteboy who runs a tight ship giving orders, making sure that he sticks with the deadline. He is like Dr.Asthana from that Munnabhai movie, cold, calculating and uses his head instead of his heart.

The sub-ordinate must be a black guy who has a heart of gold, a quintessential nerd who bows down to his boss's demands from the beginning of the movie, but later in the end grows a pair to question his Boss' authority and fights for the rights to survive of the other less fortunate people. Needless to say, the dude with the heart of gold and balls of steel wins the argument.

7. Cheesy lines : These are the lines that one has to say to give the effect of a Disaster movie:

a. "You should see this" - This line gives the viewer anxiety pangs of what he is about to see, this line acts as a buildup to scene of disaster which we are about to witness. Applicable only to pilots / captains of any vessel or airplane who are relaying information to their superiors.

b. "Holy Mother of God!" - to be said when one sees the trail of disaster left behind by an earthquake or a tsunami, applicable only to minor characters with lesser screentime who are gonna die anyway in another 3 minutes. This line usually follows "You should see this"

c. "We all gonna die!"  - Applicable only to the cranky guy who says this to spook you and everyone in the hall.

d. "Stay here I will come back" - A poor man's version of "I'll be back" which was made so popular by Arnie in the Terminator series. Applicable only to the hero when he goes to save life/ or kick some alien ass. It is automatically ensured that the hero will come back triumphantly whenever he has spoken these lines.

e. "Daddy, are we gonna die?" - The dumbest question that was ever created in the disaster movie genre. This is the question I was talking about earlier in the post. Kids ask questions, a lot of em, but this has to be the dumbest of the lot. Applicable to kids of the hero who ask this just to annoy the crap out of you. They should know that they are the heroe's kids, Daddy dearest will always keep em away from harm's way. By this time the kids would have started to respect their Loser Dad after they see him bravely save the life of the guy- screwing- their- mom.

f. "We are gonna stay together, you understand me !?" - Obviously to be said by the hero, and applicable only to the hero who says this line to show you and the slutty ex-wife who the boss is. This line brings a feeling of reassurance among the kids and the ex-wife that Loser Dad will face anything selflessly to save their asses.

8. The Indian scientist : This is the final point which I had forgotten to add. Be assured of finding an Indian scientist who speaks Hindi with a heavy American accent when conversing with his wife, ironically, his English will sound more believable than his Hindi. And the odds are that he may have a last name "Patel". We Indians don't just drive taxis and serve Chicken tikka masala to White people anymore, hell yeah! We also calculate the temperature at which the Earth's crust will start giving rise to mega-tsunamis and can also warn you on how much time you got. This guy will be a regular fixture in forthcoming disaster movies, and an actor of Indian-American origin with a bad Hindi and even bad acting will play this character. You can see that he has modelled his speech on Apu, the Kwik E-mart guy from The Simpsons, though you can ask him to go easy on ending every sentence with "my friend!". The theatre will burst into cheers once we Indians are given credit for warning the world but ironically end up losing our own lives, the "We are here because of an Indian" part does ease the pain. We are a huge market for disaster movies, my people better be there in the script.

Final Note: Make sure that the guy-screwing- the ex-wife is killed in a car crash or has been smashed to pulp in a conveyor belt, or blown to pieces by the end of the movie. This will help in bringing back the hero and his family together, thus confirming your faith in the adage "An estranged family that faces a natural disaster together, survives together".

Another novel written by JK Rowling discovered: Rahul Putter and the Unfortunate Indians

After a crime novel, another novel written by JK Rowling under a pseudonym has been discovered. This time a political fantasy novel set in India titled “Rahul Putter and the Unfortunate Indians”.
This not-so-well-known book was written by “Janki Rai Singh” which has been revealed to be another pseudonym of JK Rowling.
This book attempts to make the protagonists in the original Harry Potter Series more life-like by having their personalities resemble real persons, so as to appeal more to adult sensibilities, especially in India.
“The story is based on a very powerful wizarding community called politicians who rule over ordinary muggles such as you and me,” JK Rowling explained. She admitted to have written the book in an exclusive interview with Faking News.
The good wizards, led by Rahul Putter, are gifted with extraordinary magical talent and have ordained that they will pull out, not rabbits, not pigeons, but near free food for a billion people out of their hat. No one knows how it will happen or where it will come from. It’s magic.
Legend has it that Rahul Putter was only a baby when it was destined that he would become the “Chosen One.” He did not even have to lift so much as a finger or a wand. Instead, Rajiv Gandhi lifted his wand and gave it to Sonia.“These wizards can also hang the parliament indefinitely in mid-air and make tax payers’ money disappear,” Rowling said, further detailing their magical capabilities.
“Love is the greatest magic of all,” Putter’s mother has since taught Volde Modi and others as she overthrew them took over the Indian government. She conquered Rajiv Gandhi’s heart and then an entire country. Avada Kedavra!
It is said that Sonia’s inter-racial sacrifice has made Putter omnipotent. “I named him Vice President of the Congress even before I named him Rahul,” Sonia is quoted in the novel.
Rahul Putter has been struggling to complete his Ordinary Wizarding Levels (O.W.L.S) before he sits for Prime Minister.
“He is having trouble at school. He has still not learned how to make his broomstick fly. He only makes USDINR fly,” Hogwarts principal, Dumbledore says in the book.
Volde Modi is determined to confiscate power from these wizards through his powerful and unusual brand of magic, called “development”, a phenomenal magical feat which few wizards have dared to achieve until now.
Volde Modi sends shivers down the spines of members of the Putter camp. They are so terrified of him that they refuse to take his name. He rises to power gradually, growing stronger day by day, by summoning Facebook and Twitter followers, as well as people who don’t need free food, along his side.
He is also rumored to be offering VM tattoos, also known as the Dark Mark, for free through shady tattoo parlors in Ghatkopar and Chandivali. The tattoo is known to burn on the forearms of his followers every time the growth rate of Gujarat increases.
“Volde Modi is definitely one of the most talented students to have studied in Hogwarts,” said proud professor Dumbledore, referring to Volde Modi’s latest magical feat wherein he presented to us as many lives in 2013 as he vanished in 2002.
“The disappear & reappear magical act has been very popular in the wizarding community but so far it has only worked on pigeons and rabbits. This is the first time someone was able to apply the act on Gujaratis,” the professor points out.
When Manmohan Singh was asked to comment on any potential involvement of his government in influencing this plot of this Harry Potter sequel, he suddenly started banging his head on the wall and shrieking “Dobby no speak, Dobby no speak.”

Startup Visa offered by Citizenship and Immigration Canada

Canadian Government has implemented a new and unusual reason for issuing a visa. It is called the Startup-Visa. This program is a unique way of connecting entrepreneurs with appropriate well-established organizations in Canada. This visa is a great offer for all startups as Canada is a country that provides advantages in many aspects. It has a strong economic growth along with amazing facilities of research. Fortunately it has low tax rates as well as business expenditure. Canada, with its fantastic lifestyle, has very simple and basic procedures that when followed would grant us with our startup visa.

There is a specific amount of money that will be required for a family of a particular number of members as specified by the Canadian government and you cannot borrow this money. It is necessary to submit proper proofs that you have the required funds. If you carry more than C$10000 you must inform a Canadian official upon arriving in Canada. This is necessary as per the rules of the country and if not followed there are high chances of being fined or imprisoned. There are certain medical exams and police checks that need to be performed before doing anything else.

After all the above things have been done you must download and print the application package found in their official website. Pay the processing fee for you as well as your dependents and the Right of Permanent Residence fee too. Once all the fees have been cleared submit your application online and then you just have to wait for a certain processing time period.
A CIC officer will check all your details and documents. Inform him if there has been any recent change in any of your personal details. After you have been verified completely your permanent residence visa will be confirmed.

A short procedure will be followed once you arrive in Canada. An officer from Canada Border Services Agency will check all the travel documents belonging to you and might carry out a necessary questionnaire. Remember not to carry any item that is forbidden in Canada.

A Day to Salute Women's "Passion & Purpose"

Perfect Dias for “Passion & Purpose”

KC TECH organized KCG Women’s Conference “Passion and Purpose”

“Woman … is the divine object, violated, endlessly sacrificed yet always reborn, whose only joy, achieved through a subtle interplay of images, lies in contemplation of herself” – PAULINE REAGE.

This great saying about Women was visualized in the KCG Women’s conference “Passion and Purpose” held on 16th March 2013, in the KMC auditorium of KCG College of Technology. In the presence of some renewed and dignified women who has already attained success in their life and is an epidemic of grace and poise to the women fraternity around the globe, the KCG Women’s Conference witnessed the Passion that every women has, to achieve success and the Purpose for which they accomplish their goal.

KCG Bazaar

I was up early on the 16th of March, 2013. Reason was simple, it was the Bazaar weekend!! I wanted to be at the stalls before anyone else, I wanted everything to be perfect. I checked on my team members and set off to the stalls. The stalls were all set and the shamiyana was also standing tall. I don’t mean to gloat, but the stalls looked really good. As I walked the length of the Bazaar, I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach that something may go wrong.
At the mehendi stall
Yielding to my gut feeling, I checked whether the stalls were provided as many power sockets and tables as were requested, whether they had enough table cloths and many such minor details. By and by the stall holders began to arrive with bags enough to fit a month’s utilities. I had them fill in their paperwork and handed them their ID cards. As I was doing this, the rest of my team arrived too. We blocked the emergency exits to prevent them from being used as entries and stationed volunteers at each point. What we failed to note is that the junior students wouldn't be able to stop the senior students from making rogue entries and that we should have stationed some seniors instead. But well, we learn from our mistakes.
And then we opened sales. It was inches away from becoming a stampede. We had underestimated the crowd, but somehow, the stall holders managed the crowd very well. The day went on with more and more students filing in. The stall holders didn't get a chance to breathe and neither did we. We were practically running from one end of the Bazaar to the other solving minor conflicts (which could’ve gotten real ugly). The inauguration was done by Mrs. K. Saraswathi, the General Secretary of the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry. We accompanied her as she visited each stall and interacted with the students.
After seeing over two thousand people walk in, the stall holders had recovered their investments and were looking forward to make some profits on Sunday. We weren't expecting much of a crowd on Sunday but we were pleasantly surprised - over five hundred people visited the Bazaar. The crowd included families and friends of the college students and the like. My team and I also found some time to shop and have some fun at the stalls.
As the Bazaar drew to a close, it was time to pick the winners of the lucky draw. We had two five-year-olds pick four winners, two from each day. We also gave away gifts to every hundredth visitor. The volunteers were relieved of their duties, but they weren't just our college mates then, we had become good friends over the weekend.

When we finally asked the stall holders to close for the day, I sighed in relief. It wasn't my gut that was telling me something would go wrong, it was just me being paranoid and for once, it was a good thing.

Is Our Conscience Dependent or Independent?

Today was an amazing day at my college. The last period was English. My professor informed us to bring a copy of The Devoted Friend written by Oscar Wilde downloaded from the net, since we didn't recieve our books yet. Then he decided to start a discussion. He posed to us, two questions. 1. What have we done for our friends till now? and 2. Has your friend ever manipulated you in any way?

First of all,I would like to confess that I am a kind of introvert. So discussions/debates make me somewhat nervous. Not that my professor forced everyone to talk. But, nevertheless, I have been wanting to come out of this shell. While, a thousand different things (an exaggeration! :P) came to my mind, many guys stood up and shared their views. In my mind, I thought about my friend and our pasts. In 10th grade, I had the courage to show a complicated brain diagram to my friend which I had drawn in the Science exam in quarterly. Later, he thanked me profusely. My friends have also manipulated me in different ways, but for only petty issues like forcing me to take leave to school (11th). Now to the present, the guys were talking about manipulation by friends. I really don't know how the topic transformed from manipulation to our conscience. I probably was too engrossed listening to them that I forgot that it had changed. Two guys were saying that their conscience is not influenced by society and independent. Yeah, now I remember, this came from 'Can we be influenced by our Friends and to what extent'. Some, like 8 guys stood and began giving their opinions,, turning into a hot debate.

I raised my hand, and sir nodded. I told something like this ," I have something to say sir. But I don't know whether I am right or wrong. According to me, when we are born as babies, we have nothing such as conscience. As we grow up, all our values are being taught by parents, other elders and importantly we are shaped by the school, where again we are taught values. So I think there itself we are influenced by the society". The professor gave a subtle smile and the debate went on. One guy (from the two guys, also my friend), a malayali native, was asked by the other guys whether he chooses to speak malayalam due to his conscience. I could see clearly that he was beating about the bush. Language, I think, we speak not due to our conscience. Then the bell went "TRRRRRRRRR".

After the class got over, as me and my friend were going to the railway station, my friend and I continued to talk on the topic. He told an amazing point. This might be a little adult-y but I am going to be as subtle as possible (my conscience). His point was this. In the teenage years of a person (puberty), he might 'definitely' see some 'sensual' scenes, which the person cannot possibly escape from. (I think the word here is) Naturally, he will be tempted to see more such scenes, because the reason is, ....... lets say, it gives him excitement (:P). The decision to see/not see more such scenes is decided by his own conscience. It may be a weird point but when I came to think about, I feel that my friend may be right. I told my friend that he could have said this but he thought that it was weird to discuss such issues in classes. Now, again that is his conscience (influenced), don't you think ? :P. Because our society treats it as taboo.

So, to conclude, there are two sides to this.
But, I still believe that our conscience is influenced, if not whole, at least to a certain extent.

Readers, I welcome you to share your views. :)

The Cliched Love Story

It was a cold morning, not only the climate but also the things that were going to unfurl. I couldn't wake up for I never slept. The reason being outrageous possessiveness.

I kind of felt uncomfortable in meeting her but nevertheless I got ready. Clad in best tee and jean from my unwashed collection, I decided to make a move to the cafeteria for my impatience was nagging and eating me alive though I was going to be an hour early. I asked the cheta there for a coffee giving him a ten rupee note for 6 bucks coffee. Collecting the coffee and the  change I kept to my usual place. Sitting down and staring into the void, I had this pale as a corpse expression in my face.

My brain was flipping through the pages of the novel of my past four-and-a-half months of life. Seeing that I no option left than to wait, I was brain storming my past and here is how it happened,

"It was my fourth year of college. The year began well for I never imagined I would get placed but miracles do happen and it did. As usual I skipped breakfast at the mess and headed towards the cafeteria to have a decent meal. Also there is nothing better than a morning's coffee at the cafeteria.

Walking all the way, I headed straight to the billing counter without having to look at the menu for I became a regular here over the period. There wasn't much of a queue and I stood behind two girls. The aroma of coffee was already refreshing my mind. The two girls were in a hurry I suppose; they forgot their change and headed to get food.

The cheta at the counter kept calling them but they simply walked away. Getting my bill and their change I went after them to give their change.  And that's when I met her for the first time.

Neha was her name which I didn't know at that instance. Anyways I walked up to them and explained what had happened and gave them their change. They thanked me and smiled and introduced themselves making me do the same. I told them I hadn't grabbed my food and forced myself out of an awkward conversation.

I met her again the very next day at the cafeteria. She was having cornflakes from what I could see in distance. After coming a bit closer, I bid her a hi and walked to the billing counter and placed my order. After having got the food, I was searching for a place to sit and that's when she called me to sit with her.

I had this long weird walk to the table and pulled a chair and sat opposite to her. She started asking me questions and that was the start to our first of many conversations that were soon to follow. She was indeed attractive.  She was in the third year which meant she was my junior. I couldn't help notice how her hair covered her eyes  every time she bent to feed herself a spoonful of cornflakes making sure the milk doesn't spill on her uniform. ( Yes uniform :|)

We exchanged numbers and left the cafeteria. I promised myself that I would get to know her. Being in fourth year meant lot of free hours and lot of time to spend either in my room or in the cafeteria looking at people and munching.

I kept bumping into her often; at first it was all unplanned but soon after we started texting, it became otherwise.

I kept calling her to the cafeteria but not very often because I didn't want her to think I was hitting on her already which I clearly was not. Or was I?

She had issues in the beginning meeting regularly but she came every time I called her which made me feel she had a thing towards me. But my inner voice which had never popped up till then made me think she was just obligated to come for I was her senior.

She started getting friendlier and comfortable than how she was initially. She started conversations through texts and I thought this was progress. But I never did expect any progress. Wait, now do I like her? It was strange. I never openly succumbed my feelings to love but this was different altogether. I was happy around her.

One day I was in my class and my phone vibrated. I read the text under the professor's nose and it read, "Cafe 4:30? :) :) :)"

My hand was shivering and I started to sweat. I was able to feel my skin's temperature rise. She called me to the cafe for the first time and I was wondering why. Controlling my excitement, I simply sent a yes.

Later that evening I met her and she ordered coffee for both of us and we both sat opposite to each other sipping the coffee. She asked me all of a sudden as to what my plans for her birthday were. I was puzzled. I thought it was her birthday and that I didn't know. I apologised shamelessly for wishing late and she started laughing.

Her birthday was the following day and she was as surprised and a bit disappointed that I didn't even know her birthday. That's when I actually realised I had feelings for this girl. Just 4 and a half months and here I was being consumed by feelings towards a girl.

I didn't make any special arrangements for her birthday for I didn't want to be all cheesy. I wrote a birthday letter hoping she would like it. I called her exactly at the stroke of 12 to find the line busy. I was disappointed much. I kept trying again and again only to find the line busy. I gave up in frustration and slept in anger.

My alarm rang an hour earlier and only after five to six rings did I realise it was a phone call. I lazily picked up the phone and to my surprise, it was Neha. The minute I heard her voice, I found myself startled. She reckoned we meet at the cafe around 8 for breakfast. I told her okay and kept the phone without even wishing her a happy birthday."

It was like being awoken from a dream. I saw her standing before me clad in a beautiful white salwar making her look more gorgeous than ever. She was wearing bangles and her nails were painted in red. I had never paid heed to many details but now they were right in front of my eyes and I couldn't help but notice how pretty she looked.

I wished her a happy birthday and gave her the letter and a huge bar of toblerone. She smiled and whispered, "thanks", brushing her hair from her face.

We sat next to each other with our plates and started talking. She kept getting prettier and I couldn't help but fall for her. When I was about to confess my feelings for her, She apologised.

She was like, " I saw your missed calls. I am sorry the line was busy and that you couldn't wish. In fact a lot of people had called but to their dismay, I couldn't return even one of them except for yours."

I assured her it was not a problem and out of curiosity I asked her who she was talking to and her reply trickled a tear from my eye and it fell into my coffee.

"My boyfriend!", was her reply.

New Year's Day Contemplation

Today is the Very First Day
The Very First Day of the Very First Year
The Very First Year of a New
And Very long awaited Decade.

I turn my head toward the Future to say
As if to say to all of the Ended of Days
'The Past Year is now all gone away
The New Year is what now is here to stay.'

And then I take off and begin to fly
Toward what is beyond Yesterday's Clouded Skies
And to look into the Virgin and Childish Eyes
Of a Future that has not as of yet
Been seen or spoken to.

I close my eyes to the Passed and Ended of Days
Of the Year has gone before these Hours
It is ended.
It is done.
It can be changed no more.

No more Days to be started anew
No more Sunrises, no more Skies of Blue
Or Cloudy Greys
Or Nights to be Forgotten
From that Year.

The Stars that had earlier shone on those Nights
Had done so without a thought or a caress
For what would come or for what might be
In the Future that they might see
They had continued to shine so Unthinkingly.

They had done so with no Conscious thoughts of Me
Of where it was that I had been
Or where it is that I will be
For when it is that they will no longer shine
When their lights would no longer be Reflected
In the Heavens or in the Seas.

I shall have no worrisome Regrets
For what has been done
That I cannot redo
For what has been done
That I can never undo.
I shall live with no regrets
And I should hope that neither should you.

I shall strive to free myself from that thought
That stone...
That stone that would hang about me as a noose
That dreaded contemplation
Of all that is and what has come before
Of All that has ever been
That I cannot undo
That heartfelt beat of untimely unrest.

We can change it nevermore.

For what's Done is Done
Is Done and Gone
And for tomorrow and today
This very minute
This very hour
This very second
This very day
Are when I can strive to start Anew.

To move ever toward my own Choosings
Toward skies that are ever clearer and more blue
To hold and grasp life's Golden Goose
To sail toward Uncharted Lands
Toward the Exciting and the New
The Past is in the Past
The Future has nothing more to lose.

To inhale Life as a Breathe of Air
To be as Free and Loose as my locks of hair
To live without a care
To be not afraid to dare
To never live in what has been left behind
In the Cobwebs of our last year's Minds.

To Rise and Fall with nothing more left to lose
To hold fast to that Golden Goose
To take care not ever to Lose
Any of your Stones that have been left unturned
And to not lose track of any of your Bridges
Any of your Bridges that you have left unburned.

And not to ever leave behind
A Minute or Second of Life's Cherished Time
To hold that thought firmly in your Mind
Along with your Thoughts and Ideals
That so quietly lie
Underneath those Precious Stones
That so often End up at the End of our Lives
So sadly left unturned.
